Hypnotism
has been used to help people with problems of the mind for
centuries.
Symptoms:
feeling out of control, so much to do can do nothing, procrastination,
lack of concentration, slump in confidence, anxiety, sleep
disrupted, feeling of hopelessness and helplessness leading
to depression, wanting to give up, get away, escape. This
can result in migraine, IBS, chest pains, panics and other
stress related illnesses. These symptoms can be felt, in
part, even when thinking about the problem.
Stress
can hit anyone, often at a time of change, new job, new
relationship, new management at work, new working practises,
new baby, or a change in personal circumstances, sexual
problems, illness, trying to cope. They become linked in
that the more the stress the greater the problem seems to
be.
Hypnotherapy/psychotherapy
are excellent at dealing with these problems by -
1. regular relaxation
into hypnosis during sessions and at home using the back
up programme(s) on CD.
2. suggestion
therapy under hypnosis, often dealing with the recent triggering
event(s). Boosting confidence and putting things into a
new perspective.
3. the use of
counselling/psychotherapy to find new strategies and ways
of handling stressful situations.

Case History
- A. A man who felt he had been over-promoted into a job
he didn’t believe he could do. He went into work at 7.00
a.m. and didn’t leave until everyone else had gone. Had
a real fear that he would be found out! Felt he had to do
everything himself or others would see his failings. Couldn’t
take a holiday or even a lunch break for the same reason.
A young man with a young family this was putting great strain
on his wife and their relationship as he was never home.
We worked to
find ways of managing his work, to make it appear and be
more manageable. Gave him the confidence to delegate work.
Changed his view of his promotion, his bosses had enough
knowledge of him and the job to ensure he was the right
man to do it. The outcome was that he took breaks and saw
time with his family as an obvious balance to the pressures
of work.
Case History - B. A woman acting as a PR who worked for
three bosses, each of which thought their work was the most
urgent and the most important. She therefore found herself
either with an overload of work, or no work to do. Times
when she stayed on to very late hours. It made her feel
important, and indispensable one the one hand, but that
just made her failure to handle it even harder to deal with.
The crunch came when due to another change in the business
structure all three gave her work at the same time, all
urgent and all important and mounting to many more hours
work than she could possibly deal with in her working hours.
She was off sick
when she came to see me and dreading a return to work.
We worked to
boost her confidence using the evidence of how much she
had achieved and coped with. Ensuring that she realised
it was the expectations that were wrong not her. She deserved
her time off too.
We then discussed
options and found ways that she felt she could communicate
to her bosses and renegotiate a way of working together.
When she had the confidence and courage she asked to see
the three together and used a diary she had kept of the
workload to explain that something had to change. They then
realised and decided to give her an assistant and regular
workload meetings.
She felt valued
and appreciated and back in control. She also had a means
of handling any future problems.
